Memorial Weekend...

Before I head on the road for a grueling 7.5 hour trip home to MN, I thought I should post and wish everyone a wonderful Memorial Weekend and safe travels if you are going to head on the road like I am!

There hasn't been anything new with my garden lately, besides the fact that my beans are sprouting now! With being gone from home for the next three days, I hope everything survives. Temperatures here in Philip are pretty hot. When I scooped out the weather last night on the WeatherChannel.com, it was forecasting to be 95 stinkin' hot degrees in Philip today!

I have many things planned for the weekend. Sheering lambs, attending a family friend wedding, fixing fence, and visiting old friends are a few things to name! It's a wonderful feeling to be going home to your stomping grounds. I'll have my camera in hand as I snap a few photos of the calf crop and my hard work from over the weekend! Look for an update next week!

Anyways, safe travels and I'll be in touch in the next couple days!

Mother Nature Hits...

I hope you haven't blown away yet! I'm barely holding on and hoping that our house doesn't lift off its foundation. It's been very windy and humid today and around 5:15 p.m. it sure rained and produced a small amount of hail. But Mother Nature sure has had some issues lately!

This past weekend, we were back in Bristol for one of Dustin's friend's wedding. The weather was interesting as well. There was a few light storms and wind as well. However, it was a wonderful weekend to relax and that is what we did! We left early on Sunday to do some errands in Aberdeen before hitting the road. We stopped at Walmart and we should of never went to the garden center! I wanted to bring all these flowers home and all he keep telling me was, "We don't have enough room!" The reason why because we had to bring his bike, had our luggage and purchased a weed whacker. I was pretty devastated!

Well I got over it, but we got home at a decent hour which allowed us to take care of the dandilions and to replant the tomato plants. That's right, we got a new tomato plant to replace the one that took a hit with the weather earlier. Below is a photo of my garden, check out my sprouting onions and shallots! As well as, our new clothes line! Ready for nice weather so I can use it!

Also to mention, we have had a few new friends visiting us at our home...the Oriole and the Blue Jay. Check out their mug shots!

Once the weather nice and he stays around for awhile, I'll get a better photo!

Maniac Wednesday...

Greetings fellow blog followers! I know it's been some time, but let me tell you about my schedule! This past weekend, we were at Dustin's hometown for his sister's graduation. We are so excited about her new adventure to college. It was a wonderful time to reconnect with family members, especially Dustin's grandma and grandpa, aunt and cousins! I don't know how his mom managed to cram 14 people into their farmhouse!

We took off Monday so we were able to catch up with family. Besides graduation, we attended Em's soccer game (Dustin's youngest sister). She is such an amazing player for being 12 year old. She scored two goals. Check out the picture below of her amazing skill!

Also, my mom stayed out in SD on Sunday night and all of us girls went dress shopping for the wedding. Let's just say it was a successful day! I'm so blessed to be marrying into a wonderful family and having three sister-in-laws! They are so much fun!

I know I haven't talked about my garden lately because it's still the same since the last several post. I should of taken the opportunity to plant the rest of my garden yesterday since it was beautiful here in Philip yet a little windy. I hope to get the rest of my garden in before the weekend.

I have positive news though about my garden! All my onions and shallots have sprouted! After examining really close to the cucumber patch last night, I think they are sprouting as well!

Anyways, I think I have filled you in with all my news! I will be back before I head on the road this weekend for a wedding to give you an updated on my garden! Take care and hope your green thumb is doing well!

Formed A New Wrinkle...In My Brain...

As I finally saw the sun today for the first time since a couple of days, I thought I would share some interesting news and information for you. I haven't been able to get outside to do anything since last week sometime because it has been so cold and dreary! It just makes me want to stay inside, cuddle up in a blanket and watch TV!

I hope to make some head way after the weekend! But today, when I was walking home for lunch, my neighbor Audrey caught up to me and she said, "Did Dustin tell you that I called over the weekend?"

I simply replied, "No, he didn't."

She continues on, "Well I was walking down to the Stakehouse for some supper and when I walked pass your house, I thought, about your beautiful flowers outside and the upcoming forecast. Then when I walked back home, I thought, I better call them and tell them they might want to bring their flowers in because of the cold weather coming."

She did call and Dustin did bring them inside! But what good neighbors I have! I tell them about my garden and they give me some key pointers, which is great for being a novice at this whole gardening thing!

The reason for my title for this post, when I was at work today, I was causally going through some news stuff and on the Star Tribune website, they have a section called Greengirls! I sometimes pop on there to see if they have any helpful pieces.

Today was a tomato tips, which I desperately need since one of my tomato plants has thrown in the towel. They told me to plant my tomato plant on it's side. Strange, I know!

You'll just have to read for yourself! http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/homegarden/blogs/93674364.html

Well anyways, I better get going so I can enjoy more of the sun! I hope you'll do the same!

Have a great day! :)

Rainy Days...

Nothing much has been happening in the garden lately, besides the fact that a few of my onions are sprouting! It has been cold and rainy here in West River, SD! I would like to get into my garden and get it all planted. However, good news arise today at my work. My ordered dwarf lemon tree and blueberry bush arrived. It made a deary days so bright. The lemon tree has two buds already growing!

The latest news on my tomato plant...still dying! After visiting my neighbors the weekend of May Day and bringing them a basket of goodies, we would strike up a conversation about my latest garden adventure. They basically made it sound that I was crazy for planting the tomato plant and that I should wait about the 3rd week of May. Well I guess I know for next year, if this year doesn't drive me to craziness!

Dustin and I are going to have a crazy month a head of us. We are going to be gone every weekend to help celebrate friends in their new life, their wedding! We have three in a row and this coming week, his sister is graduating!

Last weekend, I had the most amazing time with my college roommate, best friend, sister I never had, many things can explain her but we sung our lungs out at a Miranda Lambert concert and then finally attempted to view some wedding dresses. It was so nice to have my #1 inspiration there...my mom!

Well I will keep my busy to update when something new strikes up! Hopefully the sun will peak and will give me a reason to blog!

Till the next time!

Midweek Update...

I better get ya'll caught up with what's been new with me! I know its been a few days but a few things have happened!

I've been keeping busy with my marathon training schedule. For those who don't know, The Cattle Business Weekly has entered in a marathon relay in October. The whole office staff is taking part. It has been intense! We are on a tight training program--3 days of running, 2 days of light activity and 2 days of rest! So far, I haven't missed any days! I'll be doing more update about our marathon training down the road.

About my garden, its hanging in there so far. I haven't been able to do much since the wind has been the problem. I'm nervous to lay my seeds and then Mother Nature picks them up and plants them on the hill behind the house we rent! I'm hoping to get to them on Sunday after I get back seeing my best friend by the Mankota area. My tomato plant on the other hand, it's still looking sad. Dustin told me that if the plant doesn't weather out soon, it'll have to be replaced by a new fresh looking one!

I want to make a correction on a post that I made about the cardinal outside our window. My grandma, the bird lady, told me that's not a cardinal and I was mistaken. It could possibly be a house finch or a crossbill. So if you know your birds, please let me know if my Grandma is right!

I also want to make a note about something interesting! I just made a purchase for a....lemon tree and blueberry bush for the office to be put in my greenhouse corner with the plants that I received for my birthday! I'm pretty excited and I think my co-workers are as well! I can't wait for them to get here! However, I'm a little nervous about this lemon tree. It said that it can reach up to 8 feet in height. I think I'll be removing some ceiling tiles so it can fit!

Well that's all for now! I'll be back after Saturday when I'll have more updates from seeing my friend, going to the Miranda Lambert concert and trying on wedding dresses with my mom! It will be another post of information! Till next time...take care!

Trouble In The Kitchen...

Over the several weeks, we have blessed to have some company in our kitchen. Actually they are a nuisance! What I'm talking about is...ANTS!

We don't have a dishwasher so we hand wash all our dishes, that means dishes pile up! We have found that our friendly guest loves cheese! Therefore, we refuse to eat cheese or we wash dishes right away. I feel my fingers getting pruning already!

Our solution...TERRO! It's a secret that my mom told me to use. Once the weather starts to turn to the nice side, we are going to experiment with TERRO outside. I guess you by it by the bag and shake it around your house and it will help to cure the friendly visitors taking over your house. I hope the weather changes soon!
